Risk Disclosure Statement
Last updated: 1 June 2026
Important Warning
Trading cryptocurrency carries significant risk. You should only trade with funds you can afford to lose. Past trade success is not indicative of future results. Please read this document carefully before trading.
1. Nature of the Service
EscrowPeer provides a peer-to-peer escrow service. We hold cryptocurrency in trust during a trade but we are not a financial adviser, broker, or licensed investment firm. We do not provide investment advice, price predictions, or recommendations about which assets to trade or at what price.
2. Cryptocurrency Price Volatility
Cryptocurrency prices can change dramatically in a very short time. The price agreed between buyer and seller at the start of a trade may differ significantly from the market price by the time the trade completes. EscrowPeer is not responsible for any losses arising from price movements during the trade window. Sellers set prices based on their own assessment; buyers should independently verify market prices before agreeing to a trade.
3. Counterparty Risk
You are trading with another individual, not with EscrowPeer. Despite KYC verification requirements, there remains a risk that a counterparty may attempt to defraud you. Our escrow service mitigates this risk by holding funds, but it cannot eliminate counterparty risk entirely. You should:
- Only trade with users who have good ratings and established trade history
- Verify payment thoroughly before confirming (as seller) or assuming release (as buyer)
- Not release goods, confirm payment, or take irreversible action until you are certain
- Report suspicious behaviour immediately via dispute or support ticket
4. Fiat Payment Risk
Fiat payments (bank transfers, mobile money, etc.) are made off-platform directly between traders. Risks include: fraudulent or reversed payments; payment sent to wrong account; payment interception; and chargeback fraud where some payment methods allow buyers to reverse payments after crypto is released. Sellers should use only payment methods that offer finality and should wait for funds to clear before confirming.
We strongly advise sellers against accepting payment methods that allow chargebacks (such as PayPal Goods & Services, some card payments, or digital wallets without fund protection) unless you fully understand the associated risks.
5. Regulatory and Legal Risk
The legal status of cryptocurrency trading varies significantly by jurisdiction and may change at any time. You are responsible for ensuring that trading on this Platform is legal in your country of residence. We do not provide legal advice. Some jurisdictions impose taxes on cryptocurrency transactions — you are solely responsible for understanding and meeting your tax obligations.
6. Technology Risk
The Platform depends on internet connectivity, server infrastructure, and third-party systems. We may experience downtime, delays, or technical failures beyond our control. Blockchain networks may experience congestion, high fees, or forks. We are not liable for losses arising from technical failures outside our direct control.
7. Wallet Address Risk
Cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible. If a buyer provides an incorrect wallet address, or an address belonging to a platform that does not support the specific asset or network, the funds may be permanently lost. Always double-check wallet addresses before submitting them. We cannot recover funds sent to incorrect addresses.
8. Security Risk
Your account security is your responsibility. Risks include phishing attacks, malware, SIM swapping, weak passwords, and compromised email accounts. We will never ask you for your password or OTP code via chat, email, or phone. Treat any such request as a scam and report it immediately.
9. Dispute Resolution Risk
While we aim to resolve disputes fairly and within 24 hours, dispute outcomes depend on the evidence available. We cannot compel a party to cooperate and we cannot always determine the truth when evidence conflicts. Our dispute decisions, while made in good faith, may not always satisfy both parties.
10. No Guarantee of Profit
This Platform does not guarantee any profit from trading. Sellers may sell below market price and buyers may pay above market price depending on the listing prices and market conditions at the time of trade. All decisions are made at your own risk.
11. Acknowledgement
By using the Platform, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Risk Disclosure Statement, you understand the risks involved, and you are making your own independent decision to trade.
